On the weekend of June 9-10, Dr. Susanne Metzner, a professor here in Magdeburg, led us in a wonderful improvisation workshop. We had a lot of fun and learned a great deal about the way improvisation is done in this university. In general, improvisation is the most common music therapy method used in Germany, but different universities teach different approaches to improvisation.
Here are a few short clips from three improvisations. In these solo improvisations, the player was asked to look at a piece of artwork or a photograph from a book, and to improvise on that visual image.
